What to see and do in Terrer

Terrer
Village
Terrer is a municipality of the Community of Calatayud, in the province of Zaragoza, in the valley of the Jalón river, known as the vega de Terrer, at 561 m above sea level. There was a Celtiberian and Roman settlement in the town, which is mentioned in the Cantar de Mío Cid. After the region was reconquered in 1120, it was grouped into the Community of Calatayud. The town withstood a Castilian siege in 1363 during the War of the Two Pedros without its castle being taken, and it was there that the peace was negotiated between Peter the Ceremonious and Peter I the Cruel. Its church of the Asunción retains, from the original Mudéjar building, the tower, dating from around 1400. It has 580 inhabitants (INE 2025).
Church of Terrer
Monument
Church of la Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Terrer, of Mudejar origin from the 14th-15th centuries and greatly altered in the Baroque period; of the original building only the tower, from around 1400, and part of the polygonal apse, decorated with white ceramic plates, survive.
Peace of Terrer
Historical milestone
In 1363, during the War of the Two Peters, the peace between Pedro IV of Aragón, the Ceremonious, and Pedro I of Castile, the Cruel, was negotiated in Terrer, after the town withstood the Castilian siege. Of the castle that defended it, stretches of rammed-earth wall from its double enclosure above the Jalón survive.
