What to see and do in Bureta

Bureta
Village
Bureta, in the valley of the río Huecha, in the Campo de Borja, is of Celtiberian origin and already existed as a Roman town around the 1st century, when a tower was built beside the river, on which the counts' palace would later be built. With a Muslim population from the 8th century, the village built the flour mill that is still preserved; in 1610, when the expulsion of the Moriscos was decreed, it was left depopulated. Reconquered by Alfonso I the Battler in 1119, in 1676 Charles II created for the town the title of Count of Bureta, which survives despite the abolition of the seigneury in 1837; its countess, María de la Consolación Azlor y Villavicencio, is the heroine of Bureta of the sieges of Zaragoza of 1808. Today white asparagus is grown here, protected by the geographical indication of the Espárrago de Navarra.
