What to see and do in Alberite de San Juan

Alberite de San Juan
Village
Alberite de San Juan is a municipality in the comarca of Campo de Borja, in Zaragoza, with 79 inhabitants (INE 2025), watered by the Huecha river between Bureta and Magallón; its name, from the Arabic al-barid, “the post,” refers to a former staging post for urgent mail. It is documented from 31 July 1124, in a confirmation of possessions of Alfonso I; its castle was granted to the Order of the Temple in 1141, and after that order's disappearance around 1317 it passed to the Order of St John, whose commandery also included Ambel and Magallón. Until the 1916 reform of municipal names, the village was called simply Albertite. Its church of the Annunciation preserves a notable 14th-century Mudejar apse, and the story of the stolen Blessed Sacrament is also well known locally.
