What to see and do in Agón

Agón
Village
Agón is a municipality in the comarca of Campo de Borja, in the province of Zaragoza, situated in the valley of the Huecha river, with flat terrain crossed by irrigation channels and the occasional isolated rise. The village stands at 312 metres above sea level and has 135 inhabitants (INE 2025). It preserves significant remains of a former castle and the hermitage of Gañarul, built in the 16th century, notable for its recently restored Mudejar tower. It celebrates its festivities in honour of San Pedro Mártir on 29 April, and Our Lady of the Angels on 2 August.
Hermitage of Agón
Monument
The hermitage of Agón, dedicated to Nuestra Señora de Gañarul, stands in the depopulated hamlet of Gañarul, on a site where there had previously been a castle of which the village preserves remains. It dates from the 16th century, with its characteristic Mudéjar tower recently restored, and is a simple, small building with a single rectangular nave of three bays covered by a modest ribbed vault, brick walls with a zigzag decorative band and an arched doorway opening in the south wall, beneath a gabled roof. It was declared a Bien Catalogado del Patrimonio Cultural Aragonés in 2002 (a heritage-listing category under Aragón's cultural heritage law), and despite the restoration it remains on the Red List of Heritage at Risk of Hispania Nostra (a list kept by that Spanish heritage foundation).
Festivities of Agón
Activity
Agón celebrates its patronal festivities in honor of San Pedro Mártir on 29 April and Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles on 2 August. The town was walled in antiquity, and from that enclosure the so-called Puerta del de Bisimbre survives.
