What to see and do in Tierga

Tierga
Village
Tierga is a municipality in the Aranda comarca, south of the Moncayo, in the province of Zaragoza, with 170 inhabitants (INE 2025), situated at 700 metres above sea level, on the left bank of the río Isuela, a tributary of the Jalón. On its low hills flocks of sheep are kept whose meat qualifies for the Protected Geographical Indication Ternasco de Aragón. It was a Celtiberian city of the Lusones, known as Tertakom, which minted its own coinage. Five kilometres from the village stands the Santa Rosa mine, a hematite deposit worked since the early 20th century, whose ore was carried by aerial cable to Calatayud and which, since 1960, has been used for red pigment. Its main festivals, dedicated to Santa Rosa de Lima and San Ramón Nonato, are held from 29 August to 1 September.
