What to see and do in Oseja

Oseja
Village
Oseja is a small municipality of the Somontano of the Moncayo, in the basin of the río Aranda, a tributary of the Jalón, at 827 metres above sea level; the town centre sits on the slope of a mountain, near Jarque de Moncayo. The earliest human remains appear in the Celtiberian settlement of Peña La Muela, from the 4th century BC, occupied by the Belli, with a stone wall and adjoining rectangular houses, where cereals were grown and livestock raised. Oseja was later a foundation of Muslim origin: its location and its name point to the Berber tribe of the Awsaya, who arrived in the 8th century. It preserves a castle, probably built during the War of the Two Pedros (1356-1369) as a border stronghold, and wine cellars dug into the rock that attest to its winemaking tradition. It has 43 inhabitants.
Church of Oseja
Monument
The church of Santa María Magdalena de Oseja (Zaragoza) is a 13th-century Romanesque building, considerably transformed towards the Baroque in the late 17th century. It has a Latin-cross plan with side chapels, a barrel-vaulted roof and a dome over the crossing; inside, Mudejar elements are preserved alongside Baroque plasterwork decoration. The main altarpiece, from the 17th century, depicts the temple's patron saint, while two 16th-century Renaissance side altarpieces are dedicated to the Virgen del Rosario and San Blas.
Festivities of Oseja
Activity
The patronal festival of Oseja (Zaragoza) is celebrated on 3 February in honour of San Blas, with night bonfires, and on 15 and 16 August for the Asunción and San Roque, with performances of popular music. On the last weekend of June the pilgrimage to the Virgen de la Sierra takes place. The village also celebrates, on 13 December, the feast of Santa Lucía, with communal bonfires and grilled meat.
Festivities of invierno de Oseja
Activity
Oseja's winter festival is held in honour of San Blas on 3 February, in a village whose castle was probably built between 1356 and 1369, during the War of the Two Pedros, and which in 1301 passed from the Order of the Holy Sepulchre to the lordship of the see of Tarazona.
