What to see and do in Orihuela del Tremedal

Orihuela del Tremedal
Village
Orihuela del Tremedal is a mountain town in the Sierra de Albarracín, in the province of Teruel, situated at 1,447 metres above sea level at the head of the río Gallo, one of the highest in the province. On the north slope of the Alto del Tremedal, at 1,770 m, stands the sanctuary of the Virgen del Tremedal, with a panoramic view known as "El Balcón de España"; burned down by Napoleonic troops, it did not reopen until 1884 after reconstruction led by the architect Fernando Yarza. Near the summit are the tremedales of Orihuela, peat bogs protected under the Ramsar Convention that give the village its name. In 1815 Ferdinand VII granted it a three-day fair that is still held today as a livestock event. It has 450 inhabitants (2025).
