What to see and do in Blancas

Blancas
Village
Blancas is a municipality of the Jiloca, in Teruel, situated at 1,047 metres above sea level. In 1248, by privilege of James I, it broke away from its dependency on Daroca and joined the Sesma del Río Jiloca, a regime that continued until 1833. It preserves the parish church of San Pedro Apóstol, the Casa Grande or Palace of James I, and several hermitages, among them that of the Virgin of la Carrasca, that of San Roque, with altarpieces by the artist Armand Lluent, and that of San Pascual Bailón. On the third Sunday of August it celebrates its festival in honour of the Virgin of la Carrasca. In the mid-19th century it had 396 inhabitants; today it has 132 (INE 2025).
Church of Blancas
Monument
The church of San Pedro Apóstol in Blancas, in the Jiloca comarca (Teruel), stands on the ruins of an old castle believed to have belonged to the Templars. It is a complex building, the result of successive alterations starting from a single nave with a semicircular apse of Romanesque date, an original core that was raised in height and to which side chapels and two bays at the foot, where a raised choir was built, were added. On the outside only the neoclassical doorway stands out, opened in a round arch and flanked by fluted pilasters supporting an entablature topped by a curved pediment with a small niche. On the Gospel side a solid two-tier tower is attached, and the interior, entirely plastered, shows a great variety of vaults.
