Castejón de Tornos
Village
Castejón de Tornos is a municipality in the Jiloca comarca, in the province of Teruel, with 64 inhabitants and situated at 1,085 metres above sea level, among hills of holm oak and pine woods, the Gallocanta lagoon and the floodplain of the Jiloca river. First mentioned in a document of 1205, it belonged until the 19th century to the Community of Villages of Daroca, in the Sesma de Gallocanta, from which it broke away in 1248 by privilege of James I; in 2003 it joined the Jiloca comarca. In the mid-19th century it had 479 inhabitants, far more than today. The tower of its church of the Assumption belonged to a 14th-century Gothic castle that gave the town its name. Nearby, Mount Peñalta, at 1,385 metres, offers hiking routes.
