What to see and do in Mezquita de Jarque

Mezquita de Jarque
Village
Mezquita de Jarque is a small municipality of the Teruel Cuencas Mineras situated at over 1,250 metres above sea level, beside the N-420 and near Cuevas de Almudén and Rillo, 53 km from the provincial capital. The name Jarque comes from the Arabic šarq, “east”. Its heritage is formed by the parish church of San Lorenzo Mártir and the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Rosa. It has 83 inhabitants (INE 2025), compared with 253 in the mid-19th century. It celebrates its patronal festivities in honour of San Lorenzo, with the main day on 10 August, amid open-air dances, a baturra mass, bell-ringing and guiñote and morra card-game contests.
