What to see and do in Jarque de la Val

Jarque de la Val
Village
Jarque de la Val is a small municipality of the Cuencas Mineras, in the province of Teruel, at over 1,250 metres above sea level, on flat land of good agricultural quality, with 66 inhabitants (INE 2025) compared with 272 in the mid-19th century. Its name, written in various forms (Xarch, Siarg in 1118), may derive from the Arabic xarq, “east”; it was called simply Jarque until the 1916 reform of municipal names. Its town hall is listed as a cultural asset, and its size gives an idea of the importance the village once had; facing it stand the ruins of the old church of the Asunción, with the bell tower renovated in 2008. The main festivities are held on the second weekend of August, in honour of San Roque.
