What to see and do in San Juan de Plan

San Juan de Plan
Village
San Juan de Plan, in the chistabín dialect of Aragonese Sant Chuan de Plan, is the head of the Valle de Gistaín, in the comarca of Sobrarbe, province of Huesca, and preserves a notable ethnological museum. Documented since 1020, it stands at 1,120 metres, built in terraces on the bank of the Cinqueta, less than a kilometre from Plan; it once had mining importance and all its streets run on a slope, with houses accessed on several levels. Its 152 inhabitants keep alive the chistabín Aragonese dialect, passed down from parents to children and taught at school. The church of San Juan Bautista, of Romanesque origin and remodeled in the 16th century, stands by the river, with the cemetery opposite.

Activity
The festivals of San Juan de Plan, a village in the Huesca comarca of Sobrarbe, take their name from the village's patron saint, San Juan Bautista, to whom the parish church is also consecrated. Among the town's festive celebrations, the carnival, the Falleta and the trucos de San Antón stand out.
The opening of the ethnological museum of San Juan de Plan
Historical milestone
A group of women from the village gathered clothes, tools and household goods from the Gistaín valley and managed to open the museum in the restored old abbey; they themselves still guide visitors through its rooms.
