What to see and do in Sahún

Sahún
Village
Sahún, called Saúnc in patués, is a municipality in the Benasque valley, in the Pyrenees of Huesca, whose municipal area partly lies within the Posets-Maladeta Natural Park; besides Sahún, seat of the town hall, it includes Eresué and Eriste. On 24 June, the feast of San Juan Bautista, the Fallas are celebrated, a tradition of Alta Ribagorza still alive on its Aragonese side: on the night of the 23rd, young people run down from the mountain with lit torches to the square, where today children and young people swing them above their heads. On 8 September, Our Lady of Guayente is celebrated, in honour of the sanctuary of the same name, already described in the 19th century by Madoz as ancient and famous. In the mid-19th century the municipality had 327 inhabitants; today it has 320.
