What to see and do in Labuerda

Labuerda
Village
Labuerda is a small municipality in Sobrarbe, in the province of Huesca, in the valle del Cinca, bordering El Pueyo de Araguás; to the north it is enclosed by the montes de Escalona and to the west by the sierra de San Visorio, just four kilometres from Aínsa. Documented since 1063 as La Buerda, it was a supply point for the livestock farmers of Bielsa, Chistau and Vío heading down to the Cinca. The main settlement sits at the bottom of the valley beside the river, while San Vicente de Labuerda, next to the sierra, preserves a Romanesque-Lombard church from the 12th century, part of the distinctive Romanesque style of Upper Aragón. Its economy, traditionally agricultural by the river and pastoral in the highlands, has today turned towards services. With barely 166 inhabitants at the start of the century, it now nears 180.
Church of Labuerda
Monument
Church of San Vicente, a Romanesque building with a single nave and a semicircular apse datable to the 12th century, which took on its present appearance in the 16th when side chapels, a tower and a sacristy were added. It belonged to the Templars, who in 1380 sold their rights to the town of Aínsa; it preserves an altarpiece painted between 1455 and 1513 by Juan de Abadía. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural in 2002.

The hives of the Cinca riverside woods and of the sierra slopes give wildflower, rosemary and forest honeys, dark and dense; they are used in local baking for the pastillos and the walnut pies.
