What to see and do in Yebra de Basa

Yebra de Basa
Village
Yebra de Basa, in the Valle de Basa, within the comarca of Alto Gállego (Huesca), has 155 inhabitants (INE 2025). The village preserves the tradition that an angel revealed to the shepherd Guillén de Guasillo the whereabouts of the relics of Santa Orosia; the martyr's head remained in the village and the rest of her body in Jaca, the origin of the pilgrimages that both towns hold every 25 June. The historian Antonio Ubieto linked this cult to a possible medieval settlement of Lusitanian origin. The parish church of San Lorenzo, from the 16th century and in Gothic style, preserves Renaissance panels and the reliquary of Santa Orosia, a repoussé silver bust from the 15th century; in the Orús quarter stands the Romanesque church of San Juan, from the 12th century, declared a Monumento Histórico-Artístico (a heritage protection category used before Spain's current Historical Heritage Law).

Landscape of the Basa Valley
Nature
The Basa valley, in the Alto Gállego comarca, stretches between Sabiñánigo and the Oturia massif. It takes its name from the Basa river, which rises at 1,208 metres altitude near the Puerto de Fablo area, between the abandoned villages of Fablo and Espín, in the Sierra de Portiello, and which also gives its name to the natural comarca known as Ballibasa. The river flows down to join the Gállego, at 745 metres altitude. Its mountains are covered with pines and low scrub.
