What to see and do in Arguis

Arguis
Village
Arguis is a municipality in the Hoya de Huesca comarca, in Aragon, situated on the shaded slope of the sierras of Gratal and the Águila, where the río Isuela is born before being dammed at the Arguis reservoir, the oldest in Aragon. The village, at 1,044 metres above sea level, is documented from 1070 in the cartulary of San Juan de la Peña, which cites it as dommus Balla de Argis. Its parish church of San Miguel is Romanesque, from the 12th century, remodelled in the 16th; a 15th-century altarpiece that came from it can be seen today in the Prado Museum. Nearby are also the hermitages of Nuestra Señora de Soldevilla and de la Magdalena, the latter with a medieval slab necropolis. Next to the village lies the Arguis reservoir, and a single-arch medieval bridge crosses the barranco de la Foz.
Church of Arguis
Monument
The parish church of Arguis is dedicated to San Miguel. Of Romanesque origin from the second half of the 12th century, of which it preserves the apse, it was rebuilt in Gothic style around 1646 and remodeled again in the 16th century; a 15th-century altarpiece from the church is preserved in the Museo del Prado.
