Caldearenas is a municipality of the Serrablo, in the comarca of Alto Gállego, north of Huesca, with 222 inhabitants and an area of 192.62 km² that includes part of the Parque Natural de la Sierra y los Cañones de Guara. The settlement arose around 1900 with the arrival of the Zaragoza-Canfranc railway line, and enjoyed its greatest prosperity in the 1940s and 1950s, when workers arrived, many from Andalusia, to build the canal of Eléctricas Reunidas de Zaragoza. Traditionally agricultural and pastoral, it has opened up to Pyrenean tourism. Caldearenas is home to several of the comarca's Mozarabic churches.
