What to see and do in Chimillas

Chimillas
Village
Chimillas is a municipality in Huesca province with 407 inhabitants, whose place name, of possible Arabic origin meaning small mosque, is documented for the first time in March 1098 as Gimellas. At the end of the Middle Ages, in 1495, the place had thirteen households, twelve of them Muslim families; the land belonged successively to the Order of the Hospital and, from 1785, to the Señorío de las Órdenes. During the Civil War, in the Huesca Offensive, the Galicia Regiment repelled the Republican advance from Chimillas in August 1936. It preserves the parish church of San Jorge, from the 17th century, with 16th- and 17th-century altarpieces, and manor houses such as Casa Carolina, from 1778, bearing the coat of arms of the Estaún Panzano family, and Casa Molero, both with heraldic shields on their façades.
