What to see and do in Siero

Siero
Village
Siero is the fourth most populous municipality in Asturias, with about 53,000 inhabitants spread between the settlements of Lugones, Pola de Siero —its capital— and the La Fresneda development, located in the centre of the region 18 km from Oviedo. The municipality of Noreña is entirely enclosed within its territory. Its relief, a gentle pre-coastal depression, forms a series of elevations to the north that mark the boundary with Gijón, reaching heights of up to 736 metres at Pico Cima, while the centre and west stretch out over the plain known as the llanera de Siero, up to the outskirts of Oviedo. The municipality celebrates the festival of Los Güevos Pintos on Easter Tuesday and that of El Carmín in July, and is home to the Central Lechera Asturiana dairy company.
Church of San Esteban de Aramil
Monument
A 12th-century Romanesque church located in the concejo of Siero, between the villages of Rebollada and Tras la Cuadra, about six kilometres from Pola de Siero and twenty-two from Oviedo. It has a doorway with decorated archivolts and a semicircular apse lined with carved corbels, and is considered one of the finest examples of rural Romanesque architecture in central Asturias. Throughout its history it has borne different names: it appears cited as the church of San Esteban de Tabladiello in the Libro becerro of don Gutierre, and it has also been called San Esteban de los Caballeros; the name Aramil, by which it is known today, was not used again until the mid-18th century. It is protected as a cultural asset.
Festival of los Güevos Pintos
Activity
It is held in Pola de Siero on the Tuesday after Easter Sunday and fills the town with boiled eggs decorated by hand with Asturian motifs. It has been declared a festival of national tourist interest since 1968.

The Carmín festival of La Pola
Activity
On the Monday following the day of the Virgen del Carmen, Pola de Siero holds its pilgrimage festival: at five in the afternoon the parade sets off from the Les Campes quarter to the meadow of La Sobatiella and at nightfall the festivity comes down to the old quarter of the villa.
