What to see and do in Nava

Nava
Village
Nava is an Asturian concejo in the comarca of Oviedo, 32 kilometres from the capital, with gentle relief among mountains that do not exceed 1,293 metres, in the sierra de La Triguera. Here rise the Pra and Viao rivers, which join to form the Piloña, in a territory where meadows devoted to livestock rearing occupy more than half the municipal area and forests of pine, oak and ash a third. Its first inhabitants left remains from the Paleolithic and three hillforts of the hillfort culture, and already in the Middle Ages the place is documented as Salas de Nauna. A cider-making capital of around 5,240 inhabitants, it has celebrated the Natural Cider Festival since 1969 and maintains its own Cider Museum.
Museum of la Sidra de Nava
Monument
Housed in a building by Juan Ramón Fernández Tresguerras whose semicircular forms recall an amphitheatre, it explains the complete cycle of cider: the apple orchard, the crushing, the press house, the pouring and the culture of the chigre.
Natural Cider Festival of Nava
Activity
It is held every July and has been declared a festival of national tourist interest since 1969. It brings together a pourers' competition, tastings and the contest that awards the best natural cider, in a town that has lived from its cider presses for generations.
