What to see and do in San Sadurniño

San Sadurniño
Village
San Sadurniño is a municipality of about 2,700 inhabitants in the comarca of Ferrol, in the province of A Coruña, located in the valley of the Grande de Xuvia river, with its most mountainous area to the south, toward the sierra do Forgoselo. It holds the castle of Naraío, a medieval fortress at 400 metres of altitude that belonged to Gonzalo Piñeiro and has been in ruins since the 17th century, and the former Pazo de la Marquesa de San Saturnino, which since 2014, after its restoration, serves as the town hall. It also preserves a 16th-century Franciscan convent, the Convento do Rosario, whose premises today house the town hall and the peace court, and beside it the church of Santa María do Rosario, from the 18th century, which was part of the convent until 1835 and holds within it three tombs with recumbent statues.

Monument
Medieval fortress linked to the Andrade family, today in ruins, perched on a rocky outcrop some four hundred metres above the valley of the river Castro and with an enclosure in an irregular twelve-sided polygon; its remains are being consolidated in restoration campaigns begun in 2007, and at its foot extends the parish of Naraío, with a church of Romanesque and Gothic fabric.
Xubia-Castro Special Conservation Area
Nature
A Natura 2000 Network site of 2,074 hectares protecting the valleys of the Xubia and Castro rivers alongside the Forgoselo massif; more than half its area, 1,214 hectares, lies within the municipality of San Sadurniño.
