What to see and do in Irixoa

Irixoa
Village
Irixoa is a municipality of about 1,340 inhabitants located in the transition zone between the Terra Chá and the coastal comarcas of the Mariñas and Ferrolterra. To the east, in the extension of the serra da Loba, the Vales peak comes close to 700 metres in altitude, and on its heights the Zarzo river is born, a tributary of the Mandeo; to the west, with a gentler profile, the Lambre river descends, hemmed in toward the Ponte do Porco. During the Middle Ages it belonged to the archpriesthood of Pruzos, dependent on the archbishopric of Santiago and on the county of Lemos, whose count appointed a judge who presided at the Pazo de Irixoa; it was part of the province of Betanzos until the territorial division of 1833, which assigned it to that of La Coruña.

Nature

The waterfalls of the Zarzo river
Nature
Also known as the falls of Verís, they form a succession of drops where the Zarzo cuts into a canyon before giving itself to the Mandeo. A path of some seven hundred metres, over old mill lanes, allows them to be walked.
