What to see and do in Salem

Salem
Village
Salem is a municipality of La Vall d'Albaida, north of the Sierra de Benicadell, where several ravines descend towards the Micena river, a tributary of the Albaida; the highest land, to the south, averages more than 350 metres up to peaks such as the Marchalets or la Nevera. The oldest archaeological remains, in the Cova del Frontó, correspond to a collective Eneolithic burial, and in the Sima de Salem Roman and medieval ceramics have been found. It belonged to the marquises of Bèlgida and later to the dukes of Gandía, and after the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609 it suffered a sharp decline. It lives from dry farming of olive, almond and carob trees. Its main festivities are in honour of the Cristo de la Pau, San Miguel and San Roc. It has 407 inhabitants.
