What to see and do in Benissoda

Benissoda
Village
Benissoda is one of the smallest municipalities of La Vall d'Albaida, in the province of Valencia, on a hillock on the northern slope of the Sierra de Agullent, with 494 inhabitants. It was an Islamic hamlet that, after the conquest of James I, was granted in 1271 to the knight Pere Rodríguez de Corella, and later passed to the marquisate of Albaida. After the decree of Charles V that forced the Mudéjars to be baptised or leave, Benissoda became a Morisco settlement, and in 1535 its former mosque became the rectory of the parish of Albaida. With the Moriscos expelled in 1609, the town was left almost uninhabited and was repopulated with Old Christians from Albaida and Agullent. It is now home to the regional ethnological museum, or Casal del Labrador, with dry-farming implements and a section devoted to olive oil.

Monument
The Regional Ethnological Museum of the Vall d'Albaida, also known as the Casal del Labrador, is housed in Benissoda and is part of the Network of Local Ethnological Museums of the Diputación de Valencia. It brings together a complete collection of tools and working materials from a dry-farming household of the region; its most notable section, devoted to the traditional production of olive oil, is rounded out by a collection of weights and measures.
