Atzeneta d'Albaida
Village
Atzeneta d'Albaida is a municipality in the comarca of La Vall d'Albaida, in the province of Valencia, at the foot of the Sierra de Benicadell, at an altitude of 400 metres, with 1,193 inhabitants (INE 2025). Its name comes from the Arabic az-Zanāta, the Berber tribe of the Zenata, and the original settlement was a hamlet documented in the Llibre del Repartiment after the conquest of James I. The Moriscos who lived there, engaged in farming and muleteering, were expelled in 1609, and the Marquis of Albaida repopulated the town with Old Christians. Its parish church of Sant Joan Baptista was built between 1719 and 1728, with a single nave and eight chapels between buttresses. Its most distinctive feature is the Font dels Vint-i-un Xorros, a fountain mentioned in Morisco times and given monumental form in the 18th century.
