Tavernes Blanques
Village
Tavernes Blanques is a municipality in the comarca of L'Horta Nord, in the province of Valencia, one of the smallest in area in the Valencian Community at only 0.74 square kilometres, bordered by the Carraixet ravine and several historic irrigation ditches of the huerta. It has 9,824 inhabitants. Its name recalls ancient Roman taverns near the Via Augusta, which crossed the town from north to south. Documented as a lordship since 1445, it belonged to Francis Borgia and later to the monastery of San Jerónimo de Cotalba, which held the lordship until the disentailment of 1835. Its parish, dedicated to the Trinity, was formed in 1631 by the division of those of San Lorenzo de Valencia and Carpesa.
