What to see and do in Benifairó de les Valls

Benifairó de les Valls
Village
Benifairó de les Valls is a municipality of El Camp de Morvedre (Valencia), with 2,359 inhabitants (INE 2025), of Muslim origin — its name comes from the Arabic banī Ḫayrūn, “sons of Jayrún” — and is likely the result of the merger of several hamlets. It was left unpopulated after the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609 and was resettled under the 1610 settlement charter granted by Juan de Alpuente, baron of Benifairó; the lordship later returned to the Vives de Cañamàs family, who in 1471, upon receiving the title of baron, had built a palace there decorated with hammered stone and marble brought from Italy. It also preserves a house documented since 1700 with the machinery used to produce oil in the comarca, and between 1884 and 1906 it was merged with Faura into a single municipality called Villa de la Unión.

Palace of los Vives de Benifairó de les Valls
Monument
A manorial palace built in 1471 for the Vives de Cañamàs family after the granting of the title of Baron of Benifairó, with round arches, blind windows and decoration of crushed stone and marble brought from Italy.
Perentoni House Museum
Monument
The Casa Museo Perentoni is a building in Benifairó de les Valls, in the district of El Camp de Morvedre (Valencia), documented since 1700. It dates from the 16th century and functioned as an olive oil mill, preserving the traditional machinery and facilities used to produce olive oil in the district. Now converted into an ethnographic museum, it opens to the public during the town's main festivities.
La Villa de la Unión
Historical milestone
Villa de la Unión (in Valencian, Vila de la Unió) was the municipality that resulted from merging Benifairó de les Valls and the neighbouring Faura between 1884 and 1906. Their urban centres, which today remain joined and even then were already close to touching, led to the merger in 1884, but conflicts between the residents of one village and the other eventually prevailed: in 1906 the two municipalities officially separated again, bringing to an end an administrative experiment lasting a little over twenty years.
