La Llosa
Village
La Llosa is one of the smallest municipalities in the comarca of La Plana Baixa, in the province of Castellón, situated between two hills and surrounded by orange groves, 32 kilometres from the provincial capital. It originated in an old Arab alquería; after the conquest by James I it became part of the barony of Almenara and, once the Moriscos who made up much of its population were expelled in 1609, it received a settlement charter. Chronic malaria held back its growth until the 19th century, when it accelerated, especially in the 1960s. It has 1,033 inhabitants and lives off orange growing. It retains the parish church dedicated to the Saviour and a stretch of unspoilt beach with a wooden seafront promenade.
