Los Santos de la Humosa
Village
Los Santos de la Humosa is a village of the Community of Madrid, in the east of the province, within the Alcarria de Alcalá, the natural comarca located between the rivers Henares and Tajuña, at more than 900 metres of altitude and with balcony views over the vega of the Henares. It has about 2,900 inhabitants and is connected to Alcalá de Henares by a regular bus line. Here was born in the 17th century the historian and Hieronymite monk Francisco de los Santos. Its church of San Pedro Apóstol, begun in 1562 and completed in 1677, blends Gothic and Renaissance styles and has been protected as a monument since 1983.

Monument
Church located at the highest point of Los Santos de la Humosa (Madrid), the oldest building in the village and a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) since 1983. Its construction began in 1562 under the direction of the master builder Nicolás Ribero, who was at the same time directing the works of the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in Meco, and it was finished by Pedro Lamaza in 1677. Gothic and Renaissance in style, plain and solid, it has a single nave of three bays, a polygonal apse and limestone ashlar; it is entered through a portico of three round arches on square pillars, preceded by a flight of steps, next to a three-tier tower. It safeguards relics of the child martyrs Justus and Pastor.

Nature
The Alcarria de Alcalá is the natural region of the Alcarria located south of Alcalá de Henares, in the Community of Madrid, also officially known as the Alcarria de Madrid, the Alcarria being a historic region that extends mainly over Guadalajara and also over Cuenca and Madrid. Its boundaries are the river Henares to the north, the border with the Campiña de Alcalá; the boundary of the province of Guadalajara to the east, separating it from the Alcarria de Guadalajara; the river Tajuña to the south, the border with the Alcarria de Chinchón; and the river Jarama and the old Tierra de Alcalá to the west. On this cereal-growing plateau, at 912 metres above sea level, sits Los Santos de la Humosa, where the tableland breaks off abruptly at the escarpment overlooking the plain.
