What to see and do in Corpa

Corpa
Village
Corpa is a village of the Alcarria de Alcalá, in the comarca of the Cuenca del Henares, with 832 inhabitants and a district of nearly 26 square kilometres, 14 kilometres from Alcalá de Henares and 43 from Madrid. Surrounded by cereal plains and olive groves, it is renowned for its fountains and springs: the water of Corpa reached the table of Philip II, Philip III and Philip IV, who obtained it for their personal use, and it was even bottled and sent to Flanders. It preserves the church of Santo Domingo de Silos, from the 12th century, the palace of the Marquis of Corpa, from the last third of the 16th century, and the village watering trough.

Nature
The springs that gave the village its name and its fame supplied the court: Felipe II, Felipe III and Felipe IV drank this water, which came to be bottled and sent to Flanders; the municipal coat of arms, approved in 1989, bears a silver fountain.

Food and drink
The village was famous for its springs, whose water was bottled and even came to be sent as far as Flanders. Felipe II, Felipe III and Felipe IV had it brought for their personal consumption, and the basin is still the symbol of the municipality.
