Moor of the Alcarria de Alcalá Nature · Los Santos de la Humosa, Cuenca del Henares, Madrid The Alcarria de Alcalá is the natural region of the Alcarria located south of Alcalá de Henares, in the Community of Madrid, also officially known as the Alcarria de Madrid, the Alcarria being a historic region that extends mainly over Guadalajara and also over Cuenca and Madrid. Its boundaries are the river Henares to the north, the border with the Campiña de Alcalá; the boundary of the province of Guadalajara to the east, separating it from the Alcarria de Guadalajara; the river Tajuña to the south, the border with the Alcarria de Chinchón; and the river Jarama and the old Tierra de Alcalá to the west. On this cereal-growing plateau, at 912 metres above sea level, sits Los Santos de la Humosa, where the tableland breaks off abruptly at the escarpment overlooking the plain. Photo: Emilio J.
