What to see and do in l'Ampolla

L'Ampolla
Village
L'Ampolla became an independent municipality in 1990 when it split off from El Perelló, between the Badia del Fangar and Cap Roig; it lives from fishing, mussel and oyster farming in the bay, and tourism in coastal neighbourhoods such as Ampollamar.
Tower of Cap-roig
Monument
Circular tower seven metres in diameter, built of stone and lime mortar, which watched over the coast of l'Ampolla from the eastern end of the Minyana point, a rocky spur that runs into the sea among carob trees and low vegetation. Its existence was known from documentary references and old cartography, and its remains were located again in May 1992. On 26 August 2002, a territorial archaeologist from the Terres de l'Ebre, alerted by the construction of a hotel complex at the Minyana point, found that the remains of the tower had disappeared, probably destroyed by earthmoving works, which were already well advanced; the underground defensive galleries near the tower had also disappeared.
L'Ampolla Main Festival
Activity
L'Ampolla, an independent municipality since 1990 after splitting from el Perelló, celebrates its Festa Major like the rest of the coastal settlements of the Baix Ebre, in a village that lives from fishing and mussel and oyster farming in the badia del Fangar.
Festivities of invierno de l'Ampolla
Activity
L'Ampolla's winter festival is held in a municipality established in 1990 on separating from el Perelló, located between the badia del Fangar and the cap Roig, whose rafts produce mussels and oysters all year round.
Separation from Perelló in 1990
Historical milestone
The municipality was constituted in 1990 on separating from El Perelló, on which it depended as a coastal centre. Situated between the badia del Fangar and the cap Roig, it lives on the fishing port, on shellfish farming and on tourism, with quarters such as El Roquer and Ampollamar.
Mussels and oysters of the Fangar bay
Food and drink
The rafts of the badia del Fangar, in shallow brackish waters, produce mussels and oysters all year round. They are eaten steamed, over embers or raw and they are one of the products that define the seafarers' cooking of the Ebro delta.
