What to see and do in Aldover

Aldover
Village
Aldover is a municipality in the Tarragona comarca of the Bajo Ebre, on the banks of the Ebro, at an altitude of only 14 metres. The place was already inhabited in the time of the Muslim occupation, and its name may come from the Arabic aldowayra, the little house; in 1154 it was ceded to Tortosa by Count Ramon Berenguer IV. It lives mainly from agriculture, with crops of wheat, olives and carob trees irrigated by an irrigators' community, and has a river beach and a river port on the Ebro. The parish church, neo-Gothic with three naves and an apse, is dedicated to Saint George and the Nativity of Our Lady. The village reached a population of 1,287 in 1857, a figure it has never reached again, and celebrates its patron saint festival in honour of the Nativity from 4 to 11 September.
