What to see and do in Bausen

Bausen
Village
Bausen is a municipality of the Val d'Aran, in the province of Lleida, with 62 inhabitants, located at the north-western tip of the comarca, on the banks of the river Garona and next to the French border; it is the northernmost municipality in Catalonia and includes the old border post of the Puente del Rey. It is one of those that have best preserved Aranese architecture, with hardly any developments. In 1823 a great fire forced the rebuilding of almost the whole village; from the ruins the church of San Pedro ad Vincula was saved, from the 18th century, beside whose Renaissance portal there is a fragment of a Roman funerary stele. It also preserves the cemetery of Teresa, the only civil one in the Aran Valley, built for a local woman who was forbidden a religious marriage to her cousin.
