Vilanova de Segrià
Village
Vilanova de Segrià is a small municipality of the comarca of the Segrià, on the boundary with the Noguera, situated at 255 metres above sea level; in 1553 it had about 44 households and in the mid-19th century 307 inhabitants, a figure that today stands at around 1,094. It lives from irrigated agriculture and pig farming. It preserves the church of Sant Sebastià, in transitional Romanesque style from the 13th century and dedicated to the village's patron saint, whose arrows also give the attribute to the municipal coat of arms, approved in 1985. It also gives its name to the nearby castle of Castellnou de Segrià, one of the places of interest in the municipal area.
