Torrefarrera
Village
Torrefarrera is a municipality of the Lleida market-garden belt, in the Segrià, growing due to its proximity to the capital, from which it is separated by the A2 motorway. Documented since 1177 because of the fortress tower that gives it its name, it was resettled between the 12th and 13th centuries, according to the Llibre verd, by thirteen families who made a census grant to the church of the Santa Creu, which today presides over the village with its neoclassical façade. In the 17th century it came close to being depopulated because of the Guerra dels Segadors, epidemics and poor harvests, and suffered again as a battlefield during the Napoleonic invasion. Also made up of les Comes, Corxat, el Pla de la Pona, la Raconada, Salats, Tossal and Malpartit, it has 4,900 inhabitants and irrigated agriculture.
