Torrelameu
Village
Torrelameu is a municipality in the market-garden area of the Noguera, in the province of Lérida, situated at the southern end of the comarca, in the interfluve between the Noguera Ribagorzana and the Segre, on flat land irrigated by the Torrelameu channel. With 788 inhabitants (INE 2025), it is documented as early as 1093 as a Saracen estate dependent on Balaguer, and fell in 1147 into the hands of Count Ermengol VI of Urgell, becoming part of the Templar commandery of Corbins. It takes its name from the Torre de la Mesó, an oratory in this municipality documented since the 13th century. Its Church of the Assumption preserves Baroque alterations from the 16th to the 18th centuries, and its coat of arms, with a tower and two Maltese crosses, recalls this Hospitaller past. It celebrates its Fiesta Mayor on 20 January.
