Térmens
Village
Térmens is a municipality in the market-garden area of the Lleida Noguera, on the left bank of the Segre, on a site of Roman origin. Its castle is mentioned as early as 1106, the year it was conquered by Count Ermengol VI of Urgell; the Saracens recovered it after the Battle of Corbins in 1126 and it was reconquered in 1147. In 1278 it passed to the Hospitaller knights, who remained there until 1835. In the town centre the església vella stands out, an old Gothic parish church dedicated to St John and built by the Order of Malta, with an 18th-century bell tower added later; excavations beneath it have uncovered Iberian, Roman and Saracen remains. Térmens, with an irrigated agricultural economy and 1,350 inhabitants, celebrates its main festival in January.
