What to see and do in la Pobla de Cérvoles

La Pobla de Cérvoles
Village
La Pobla de Cérvoles is a municipality in the comarca of les Garrigues, in the province of Lleida, located at its southern end, on the border with Tarragona, at the foot of the serra de la Llena. It grew at the foot of the hill crowned by the castle of Cérvoles, today in ruins. It preserves a baroque parish church with an organ and clock from the 18th century, and the Mas Blanch i Jové winery, with the Costers del Segre designation of origin, which houses inside it the last great mural by Josep Guinovart, dedicated to the world of wine, and the Vinya dels Artistes, with works by artists such as Carles Santos or Joan Brossa scattered across its lands. It was the birthplace of the publisher Josep Espasa i Anguera, founder of the Espasa publishing house. It has 208 inhabitants.
Tower of la Llena
Monument
The Torre de la Llena is a medieval building declared an asset of national cultural interest, first documented in 1163 and linked to the old castle of Cérvoles, next to which la Pobla de Cérvoles grew up, in the serra de la Llena. It is a fortress whose exact location is unknown: the historian J. Lladonosa placed indeterminate remains at the Pla de la Mustela, built on a possible 3rd-4th-century Roman settlement with large stone ashlars, although at that spot today only an agricultural building survives, with no trace of Roman remains. Other references place the tower on the serra de la Llena itself.
La Pobla de Cérvoles Main Festival
Activity
Festa major of la Pobla de Cérvoles, a municipality in the comarca of Garrigues founded from the population charters granted between 1208 and 1216 by the abbot of Poblet, on whom it depended as a priory. Its parish church, Santa Maria de la Junquera, replaced an earlier Romanesque temple and was finished in 1731, with a façade dated 1728 and a bell tower completed in 1749. The image of the Virgin is venerated there only on 21 November, the feast of the Mare de Déu de la Jonquera.
