What to see and do in La Cellera de Ter

La Cellera de Ter
Village
La Cellera de Ter is a municipality of 2,027 inhabitants (2025) in the Selva comarca, in Girona, at 166 metres above sea level on the right bank of the Ter, with the districts of El Pasteral, Pladamont and Pladavall. The oldest finds in the municipal area, some 100,000 years old, belong to a nomadic tribe; at El Pasteral a Neolithic dolmen, an Iberian settlement and a Roman necropolis are preserved. The first written reference to the place, from 833, already mentions its church, linked to the resettlement privileges that King Louis the Pious gave to Abbot Deodat to populate the Ter valleys; the village was born as cellae of the monastery of Santa Maria d'Amer and became independent from the castle of Anglès in 1788.
Sants Just i Pastor de la Cellera
Monument
Romanesque church with a single nave and semicircular apse and a sacristy added on the south side, located in La Cellera de Ter (Selva) and linked to the monastery of Amer; the roof is double-pitched and the interior has a pointed barrel vault reinforced with a transverse arch. A walled precinct surrounds the complex, which has preserved the old cemetery and the porticoed atrium at the entrance. Although the first written references date from 1364, its fabric and the dedication to the 4th-century martyrs suggest an origin several centuries earlier, probably from the 12th century. The earthquakes of 1427 damaged it, forcing a partial reconstruction attested by the buttresses on the north side. The village would go there in procession in times of drought; today the aplec is held on Easter Monday.
