What to see and do in La Vall d'en Bas

La Vall d'en Bas
Village
La Vall d'en Bas is a municipality in the Garrotxa comarca, at the headwaters of the Fluvià river, between Olot and the Guilleries, surrounded by the Corb, Sant Miquel and Llancers ranges, and by the Puigsacalm (1,515 m). It was formed in 1968 by the union of the former villages of Sant Privat de Bas, Sant Esteve de Bas, Juanetas and La Piña. Its economy combines dryland farming, mainly maize, with irrigated fruit and vegetables, livestock and notable residential tourism. It preserves Romanesque churches such as that of Sant Esteve de Bas, from the 12th century, that of Sant Privat, from the year 1017, or that of Santa María de la Piña, from the 10th century, as well as the former monastery of Santa María de Puigpardines. It has 3,269 inhabitants (INE 2025).
