What to see and do in Ullà

Ullà
Village
Ullà is a town on the Baix Ter plain, in the Baix Empordà, with 1,258 inhabitants (INE 2025), watered by the Ter river and with a mountainous sector towards the Montgrí massif. It belonged to the counts of Empúries and later to the bishopric of Girona, and preserves in its streets Gothic and Renaissance buildings from its medieval past. Its main heritage landmark is the church of Santa María, neoclassical, built over a Romanesque construction of 1362 of which part of the apse survives; inside is venerated the Virgin of the Fossa, a Romanesque polychrome carving from the former monastery of Santa María de Ullà. Near the town, already in Torroella de Montgrí, stands the hermitage of Santa Caterina. The economy is based on cereals, vegetables and fruit trees, especially apple and peach trees.
Sant Andreu d'Ullà
Monument
Small Romanesque church located in Ullà, in the Baix Empordà, within the notable ensemble of rural Romanesque architecture of the region. It belonged to the Augustinian priory of Santa Maria of the same village, of which it is recorded as a possession in 1182. When the great priory church of Santa Maria became the parish of Ullà, after the disappearance of the canonical community, the small temple of Sant Andreu was left without worship and became municipal property, serving for a long time as the town hall's offices. Much altered by these renovations, it was fully restored in 1980 and today is used as an exhibition hall and venue for cultural events. It preserves structures of reused ashlar blocks from the Roman period.
