Ventalló
Village
Ventalló is a village in the comarca of the Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, with 914 inhabitants, which originated around a 10th-century castle, of which walls and towers survive, and which extends over a plain between the river Fluvià and the marshlands of the Empordà. The municipality also includes Saldet, Montiró, Vila-robau and Valveralla. Its economy, based on the growing of rice, vines and olive trees, has increasingly turned towards fruit trees and vegetables. Next to the Gothic church of Sant Miquel, the village retains the parish church of Sant Sadurní de Montiró, with a 12th-century Romanesque apse, a 10th-century pre-Romanesque church in Vila-robau and an Iberian site in Valveralla; the hermitage of Sant Sebastià is a viewpoint for one of the finest sunsets in the comarca.
