What to see and do in Sant Mori

Sant Mori
Village
Sant Mori is a municipality in the comarca of the Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, with 163 inhabitants (INE 2025), situated on the right bank of the river Fluvià. It is made up of two settlements built on neighbouring hills and separated by about 300 metres: the Castell quarter, of medieval origin, oval in plan and with remains of the old wall, and the Puig quarter, outside the walls. It was a barony from the mid-15th century and a marquisate from 1893; in the midst of the Catalan Civil War, the regent queen Juana Enríquez and her son, the future Ferdinand the Catholic, spent a few days at the castle of Sant Mori, from where a Parliament of the Catalan Courts was summoned in October 1466. The castle, in excellent state of preservation, looks more like a palace than a fortress.
