What to see and do in l'Armentera

l'Armentera
Village
L'Armentera is a quiet village on the plain of the Fluvià, in the Alt Empordà, with 1,080 inhabitants and barely 7 metres above sea level, close to the sea and on the edge of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà nature park. The water mill, from the 18th century, retains its outer walls, steeply pitched roof and much of its interior structure; today it houses a hospitality establishment and bears witness to the village's agricultural past. The parish church of San Martín, rebuilt in the 19th century on an earlier Romanesque church from the 12th and 13th centuries, holds paintings by Joan B. Panyó, a forerunner of the Olot School, depicting the four mysteries of the Rosary. Its lively square is a meeting place in a municipality whose name recalls the old rearing of livestock.
