What to see and do in Pau

Pau
Village
Pau is a village in the Alt Empordà that stretches alongside the Muga river, along the southern slopes of the Sierra de Rodes, between the Cap de Creus Natural Park, in its most rugged part, and the Ampurdán Marshes Natural Park, on the plain. It has 560 inhabitants (INE 2025) divided between the settlement of Pau, Olivars de Pau and Vilagut, and lives from olive trees and vines, within the Ampurdán wine-growing area. The dolmens of the Sierra de Rodes attest to a thousand-year-old occupation, and its municipal area belonged in the Middle Ages to the monastery of San Pedro de Roda. The main square is dominated by the Romanesque church of Sant Martí, from the 11th-13th centuries, with a facade of five archivolts and plant and zoomorphic capitals, next to an old quarter of popular Ampurdán architecture.
