Riumors
Village
Riumors is a municipality in the centre-east of the Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, located on the plain between the Fluvià and Muga rivers, with 253 inhabitants (INE 2025). Notable is the church of Sant Mamet, documented since the year 1019 and consecrated in 1150; after the great flood of 1421, which devastated the village, it was rebuilt in the 15th or 16th centuries using earlier elements. Some houses and farmhouses retain on their façades ceramic panels alluding to services rendered to the Xamunar family, marquises of Riumors and owners of the place together with the monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. In the past the territory had ponds and marshy land, drained between the 17th and 19th centuries; today, near the wetlands and the Gulf of Roses, it is surrounded by vineyards.
