What to see and do in Collsuspina

Collsuspina
Village
Collsuspina is a small municipality on the high plateau of the Moianès, between the Bages and Vallès Oriental comarcas and bordering Osona, to whose diocese of Vic it belongs ecclesiastically and judicially. It arose as territory dependent on the parish of Sant Andreu de Tona, around the suffragan church of Sant Cugat de Gavadons, though over time it leaned increasingly towards Moià, a relationship definitively cemented after Tona's municipal independence. The village's name comes from the Coll de l'Espina, on the old royal road from Manresa to Vic, so named after the lands of the nearby l'Espina farmhouse; from the original form Coll s'Espina it shifted, through dissimilation, to the current place name. It has 391 inhabitants.

The municipal independence of Collsuspina
Historical milestone
The hamlet born beside the inn of the royal road constituted itself as a municipality of its own in 1841. A few years later it had forty houses lined up along a single street and some twenty farmsteads scattered through the district.
The soft cheeses of Collsuspina
Food and drink
The descriptions of the nineteenth century place here an industry of soft cheeses of considerable reputation, made with the milk of the flocks of the plateau. The cheese-making tradition of the col is still alive in workshops of the area.
