La Palma de Cervelló
Village
La Palma de Cervelló is a municipality in the Baix Llobregat, in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, with 3,056 inhabitants (2025) and 564.88 inhabitants/km² over just 5.41 km², at an altitude of 100 metres. In 1857 it was merged into Cervelló; between 1937 and 1939, during the Civil War, it was an independent municipality, and became one again on 21 July 1998. It was famous for having Spain's first and only blind mayor, Josep María Llop Rigol. Its Romanesque hermitage of Sant Joan del Pla, possibly dating from the 11th century, was built by Benedictine nuns from Sant Pere de les Puelles and is documented since 1313, when it was dedicated to Saint John and Saint Felix. The main festivals are for Saint Isidore, on 15 May, and for Santa María de la Palma, on 15 August.
