What to see and do in Torrecilla de la Abadesa

Torrecilla de la Abadesa
Village
Torrecilla de la Abadesa is a village of 237 inhabitants in the province of Valladolid, in the Tierra del Vino comarca, beside the banks of the Duero. Its lands belonged to the monastery of Santa Clara de Tordesillas until 1868, when they passed to the State after that year's Revolution; the archaeologists Federico Wattenberg and Pedro de Palol found Roman burials on its grounds, and between the 16th and 18th centuries the village had a tile-and-brick industry. Opposite the parish church of San Esteban, from the 16th and 17th centuries, stands a preserved adobe and timber-framed house with a portico of Tuscan columns, traditionally linked to the abbess Manuela Rascón, who is said to have shared a Christmas Eve dinner with Napoleon in 1808.
